Submit to Creative Property Show at Altered Esthetics (Deadline July 15th)

Besides putting on the annual comic art show (like this year’s Lutefisk Sushi event, deadline September 15th), Altered Esthetics gallery somehow manages to put on a show every month… which is incredibly impressive for a non-profit, community-run gallery. You can keep up with all of their open calls for submissions here.

Another event many of you may want to consider submitting to is the Creative Property show (deadline July 15ht). The show features a look at the issues surrounding and the boundaries of intellectual property ownership, issues that are certainly often on the minds of cartoonists.

Can a person claim ownership of an intangible asset? Artists face the issues of copyright and trademark as they relate to originality and creativity.

Vote for the Lutefisk Sushi Volume E Featured Artist

We will be doing another one of our Lutefisk Sushi box-full-of-handmade-Minnesota-mini-comics shows at Altered Esthetics next year, and the time has come to pick a featured artist. As usual, this being Minnesota, we have a wonderful selection of nominees… I’d be delighted to see any of them win. You can preview the artists’ work by clicking on the images below, which will take you to their websites.

We’ve dusted off the old message board for the voting… you’re encouraged to pimp for your candidates in the comments. Please only vote if you are a Minnesota artist who plans to participate in the show. Thanks!

GO HERE TO VOTE.

Poll ends sometime on September First.

Lutefisk Sushi: Volume E — The Ballot Boxes Are Open!

Hey cartoonists!

Minnesota’s premier comics art show LUTEFISK SUSHI is back for its fifth season in 2012. While the opening reception is over fifteen months away, we need to decide on a featured artist ASAP! As in past years, the featured artist will design the sushi box, and will have a whole wall devoted to their artwork during the gallery show at Altered Esthetics in November, 2012. See websites of past shows here.

NOMINATION PROCESS:

To nominate a cartoonist, please send the following info to nordeastcomics [at] gmail.com:

NOTE: Artists must reside in Minnesota or have some strong connection to the state.
NOTE: If an artist does not wish to be nominated, or does not respond to us before August 25, they will not be listed as a nominee.

CALENDAR:

August 15: Nominations open
August 25: Nominations close; Voting begins
September 1: Voting closes at noon; Winner is formally announced at 6pm at the Nordeast Comics Summit, and online.

Volunteers Needed for Altered Esthetics 7th Anniversary Fundraiser Drawing Event Friday April 29th!

Pictured above: Local Hero Kevin Cannon’s fantastic art donation to the Altered Esthetics fundraiser. See a gallery of other donated artwork here.

We will be drawing cartoons to raise funds for Altered Esthetics, the wonderful non-profit community gallery we collaborate with, at their 7th anniversary party next Friday. We need cartoonist volunteers to draw pictures for patrons offering donations. Bring your All-Seeing-Eye of Agamotto! Using our amazing ecto-ink, we will “read” the patrons to bring them personalized:

Psychic Readings
Dream Interpretations
Fortunes
Spirit Animals
Inner Demons

It should be a good time. We will be working in shifts, so you will have plenty of time to peruse, schmooze and booze as well. As always, any interested cartoonists are welcome to participate… but please, let me know you’re coming so I can get you on the schedule. To participate, email me at webmaster(at)cartoonistconspiracy.com.

Website stuffs

JUST ADD INK Preliminary Meeting this Tuesday at Psycho Suzi’s 9:00PM

We are having a preliminary meeting for our upcoming cartoonist cookbook show, Just Add Ink, this Tuesday at Psycho Suzi’s at 9PM, where we will start to get our plan together. If you want to get involved in organizing the show, I encourage you to show up. Sorry for the short notice, I meant to get this information posted sooner. If you want to participate in organizing the show and can’t show up Tuesday, please let me know so we can get you on our planning email list (email me at webmaster(at)cartoonistconspiracy.com).

Don’t worry, participation in the show will be open to anyone who wants to participate… so please do not show up if you want to participate in the show, but have no interest in helping put it together.
