Drinking Liberally With Ken Avidor This Thursday at the 331 Club

Drink with conspirator Ken Avidor this Thursday! Here is the info posted at The Cucking Stool

Thursday will be an extra special Drinking Liberally featuring Ken Avidor and some of his cartoon/illustrator buddies. Ken promises to bring along his sketch book and pen.

As most of you know, Ken has done several graphics for the Cucking Stool over the past couple of years. He skewers Michele Bachmann with some regularity and writes for Dump Michele Bachmann. Recently, Ken’s work in sketching for Law and Politics at the Republican National Convention won him a Society of Professional Journalists award.

One of Ken’s recent projects was to do the cover of the first issue of False Witness, Bill Prendergast’s graphic retelling of the Michele Bachmann story:

False Witness was noted recently in Talking Points Memo. And the dialogue is genuine Michele Bachmann, too!

We’ll have some copies of the comic available for you to buy, boys and girls, and Ken will autograph the cover if you like. It would make a great gift, especially for the right winger in your life.

We meet six to nine or so at the 331 Club in Northeast Minneapolis.

Local Hero Kevin Cannon Makes a Comic Strip About the Making of His 288-Hour Comic Far Arden on Powell’s Blog

Speaking of local hero, Kevin Cannon… Kevin posted a hilarious account of his attempt at the 288-Hour comic that resulted in his soon-to-be-bestseller from Top Shelf Far Arden (shipping next month!). I have a guest-starring role in the strip… and if you were ever at a Minneapolis 24-Hour Comics Day event, you may be in there too… Go read it here!

Erik Nelson…cartoonist…plumber!

pro1

Hey Minneapolis cartoonists…

A couple Saturdays ago I discovered a leak in my basement, so I turned to our old friend the Google search for a plumber.  Somehow this lead me to www.eriknelsonplumbing.com .

Anyway, I called Erik and he agreed to waste a Saturday fixing my ancient plumbing…FOR MONEY!!!

AND HE’LL FIX YOUR PLUMBING FOR MONEY TOO! And he’ll do an AMAZING job at reasonable rates (and for anyone who has actually had to pay for a plumber, you’ll understand how important that is).

Why post about this on the Conspiracy website? Cause as it turned out not only was Erik a plumber, but he had attended his first Cartoonist Conspiracy (MPLS cell) meeting a few weeks earlier!

Crazy small world.

So remember…when you’re in need of COMICS, check out www.nelsonerik.com

And when you need a PLUMBER, check out www.eriknelsonplumbing.com

Erik happily provides both.

He’ll also provide to world soon a new comic WALKABOUT #1–check ou his website  for more info.

Steinlicht’s Elephants

Conspirator David Steinlicht has regular gig at the Pioneer Press, so he couldn’t submit to the recent City Pages Comix Issue. If he could have, his submission may have looked something like the strip you can find by clicking on the below elephant.

David has a new comic every Thursday in the Pioneer Press, which appears about a week later on his Corner Comic website here.

Note that reader letters about the City Pages Comix Issue can now be seen here.

Note also that Steinlicht, renaissance man that he is, is currently obsessively-compulsively busy on his latest crop art masterpiece, and is blogging about it. David also maintains the Crop Art website, where you can see his previous works in the medium, as well as works by other crop artisans.

Prism Comics Guide 2008 and Rice Meeting Tomorrow

Hey guys, this is Vanesa Littlecrow W. letting you know that the 2008 edition of Prism Comics: Your LGBT Guide To Comics is now out at local comic book stores across the nation.  I just wanted to let you the conspirators Lori Kozlowski did an absolutely outstanding interview of me.  To balance out my enormous ego, there is a lot of awesome artwork and features that are sure to entertain.  Yes, I did mention the Cartoonist Conspiracy.  😉

Also, the Rice Cartoonist Conspiracy is meeting tomorrow at 7:00 pm the VAS Littlecrow Studios/old Rice Print Shop at 310 Division St S, Rice, MN 56367.  Need info?  Call 320-492-0475

Finally, I have a silly contest of little consequence with silly prizes for anyone who is interested in dinner and a drawing.  It ends on Friday because I’m traveling on Saturday.
Cheers!

Dannovision Tonight (May 23rd)

If you turn on a teevee device tonight, you may see Danno! Here is what he says about it:

A week ago an old roommate of mine filmed me at AE jabber-jawing about local comics, the Conspiracy, Lutefisk Sushi, and Altered Esthetics itself.

That interview is part of a new CHEAPO sponsored show on the CW23 Friday nights that focuses local music and art and stuff.

Well I just found out thru the miracle of technology, an interview a week ago is a aired segment TONIGHT (Friday).

So if you wanna see me blabber on and on about the same 4 topics over and over, the show airs at 10pm and Midnight on channel 23(the CW–or whatever channel that is on cable/satellite/neuro-transmitters).

Kevin Cannon Nominated for an AltWeekly Award

Not satisfied with merely getting a bunch fantastic press, Kevin Cannon just went and got nominated for quite an award for this stunning piece of work:

Kevin says:

I’m thrilled to announce that the “Twin Cities Rock Atlas” has been nominated for a 2008 AltWeekly Award in the category of “Innovation.”

The Rock Atlas originally appeared in the 11/19/07 edition of City Pages, the Twin Cities’ big weekly alternative paper. The Atlas was written by Peter S. Scholtes and art directed by Nick Vlcek.

Read more on the Big Time Attic blog here.

The award is for innovation. I pity the newsweekly editors around the world who want to do something like this and go looking for someone to give them that “Barton Fink feeling.”

“Can’t you just apply the Kevin Cannon filter in Photoshop?”
