Rift Magazine Opportunity for Minnesota Cartoonists

I just received an email about an opportunity to do some comics for Minnesota-based Rift Magazine. Below is the info.

I was just checking into the possibility of getting some comic strips for a local (minnesota) art and music paper. Maybe something in exchange for the artists promoting their comics and promoting the Cartoonist Conspiracy or The Lutefisk Sushi comic book. We want just local Minnesota artists.

I have available – 10.25″ Wide x 7.75″ high for a comics section. The only bad thing is I would need something by the end of next weekend.

Let me know if you think it is something you could get together, or if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Rich

Reminder! Come Remember the Vegan Ninja this Saturday, August 9th!

It is hard to believe almost a year has passed since the Vegan Ninja, Eric Lappegard, left the planet. Please come and raise a drink or three to his memory with us August 9th at Grumpy’s downtown (1111 Washington Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN), and do take some time to revisit his wonderful comics. Below is an open invite from Eric’s family.

Hello to everyone,

I can’t believe a year has gone by. We think about Eric everyday and have decided that we would like to have a get together with his friends to remember him. We would like to get together with as many of his friends that can make it on Saturday August 9th. We have reserved the party room at Grumpy’s downtown that evening starting at 7:30 pm. We hope that you can make it and if you know of anyone I may have missed please pass the word around. We want it to be a fun time remembering Eric and in the way that he would have enjoyed. Hope to see you there.

Steinlicht’s Elephants

Conspirator David Steinlicht has regular gig at the Pioneer Press, so he couldn’t submit to the recent City Pages Comix Issue. If he could have, his submission may have looked something like the strip you can find by clicking on the below elephant.

David has a new comic every Thursday in the Pioneer Press, which appears about a week later on his Corner Comic website here.

Note that reader letters about the City Pages Comix Issue can now be seen here.

Note also that Steinlicht, renaissance man that he is, is currently obsessively-compulsively busy on his latest crop art masterpiece, and is blogging about it. David also maintains the Crop Art website, where you can see his previous works in the medium, as well as works by other crop artisans.

Jam this Thursday in Minneapolis (August 7th)

The Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy meets at 6:30 until 10:00 the first Thursday of every month at Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe in Northeast.

Generally, we draw collaborative “jam” comics, socialize and drink caffeinated beverages. Afterwords, we often have uncaffeinated beverages somewhere else.

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).

Please also note that the Eric Lappegard event at Grumpy’s is this Saturday!

Bus info here.

Please spend some money at Diamond’s while you’re there, even if it is just a cuppa coffee… they are excellent hosts, and we wanna stay welcome there.

Big Time Attic

Big Time Attic hosts our monthly jam meetings at Diamond’s… they will be supplying us with a big old plate of pastries or something. Thanks fellas!

Lutefisk Sushi for Sale Online

I’m happy to report that we now have Lutefisk Sushi Bento Boxes volumes B and C available for sale online here (or by clicking the below picture). The Lutefisk Sushi boxes feature an enormous quantity of mini-comics by Minnesota cartoonists… around 40 minis in Volume B and around 50 minis in Volume C. You can buy them online for thirty bucks each, which is one hell of a deal.

Both boxes were limited to 150 copies, and both are getting close to being sold out, so if you want one, order soon. They can never be reprinted, so when they are gone, they are gone for good. All profits from the Sushi boxes go to support Altered Esthetics, a wonderful non-profit Minneapolis gallery that we collaborate with.

Note that in addition to the Sushi boxes, you can buy our 2006 and 2007 collections of 24 Hour Comic mini-comics for $10 each.

More Comics In City Pages Comix Issue Online

Above: A teeny view of Zander Cannon‘s contribution to the Comix Issue.

Due to some confusion at City Pages, a number of excellent entries to the previously mentioned City Pages Comix issue did not make it into the print and, initially, the online edition. Some have now been added to the online edition… go check them out!

“Five Blind Elephants” by Zander Cannon
“Republican Party Loyalists” by Andy Singer
“The Republicans are Coming… To Get you!” by Spanky Cermak
“When the Elephants Come to Town” by King Drowns

Second Annual City Pages Comix Issue Out TODAY: When the Elephants Come to Town

Above: Tim Sievert‘s contribution to the Comix Issue.

The second annual City Pages Comix Issue that many Conspirators contributed to is out today! The theme was “When the Elephants Come to Town,” which is a reference to the Republican National Convention in St. Paul this year. Many items that did not fit in the issue were included online. The print issue will be all over the Twin Cities for the next week.

Among many other things, Kevin Cannon has contributed another one of his enormous, chicken-fat-filled cartoons:

Note that you can leave comments on the feature on the City Pages website here.

UPDATE: The City Pages Comix Issue was just featured in the Comics Reporter here.
