Spanky Cermak forwarded me this website for a newish con called Geek Kon happening at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in September. They don’t appear to be charging anything to be a guest, although I may be wrong. You can register here.

Reminder! Come Remember the Vegan Ninja this Saturday, August 9th!
It is hard to believe almost a year has passed since the Vegan Ninja, Eric Lappegard, left the planet. Please come and raise a drink or three to his memory with us August 9th at Grumpy’s downtown (1111 Washington Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN), and do take some time to revisit his wonderful comics. Below is an open invite from Eric’s family.
Hello to everyone,
I can’t believe a year has gone by. We think about Eric everyday and have decided that we would like to have a get together with his friends to remember him. We would like to get together with as many of his friends that can make it on Saturday August 9th. We have reserved the party room at Grumpy’s downtown that evening starting at 7:30 pm. We hope that you can make it and if you know of anyone I may have missed please pass the word around. We want it to be a fun time remembering Eric and in the way that he would have enjoyed. Hope to see you there.

The Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy meets at 6:30 until 10:00 the first Thursday of every month at Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe in Northeast.
Generally, we draw collaborative “jam†comics, socialize and drink caffeinated beverages. Afterwords, we often have uncaffeinated beverages somewhere else.
The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).
Please also note that the Eric Lappegard event at Grumpy’s is this Saturday!

Jam this Thursday, and Learn About Wesley Morse!
In addition to our usual jam this meeting, we will have a special presentation by Kirk Taylor on cartoonist Wesley Morse. Morse was the creator of Bazooka Joe, and an uncredited illustrator of many of the best examples of the notorious tijuana bibles. In many ways, Morse was the prototypical underground cartoonist. Kirk’s presentation will feature works from the Taylor-Morse collection, a unique collection of beautifully illustrated love letter cartoons that Morse wrote to Kirk’s great aunt, chorusgirl Avonne Taylor. Read more on the Taylor-Morse collection website. The presentation will begin at 8:00. Thanks much to Puny Entertainment for providing the space and projector for the presentation!

Lutefisk Sushi Art-A-Whirl Fun this Weekend
If you haven’t seen the Lutefisk Sushi Volume C show in Minneapolis yet, this weekend (May 16-18) is a great time to do so. It’s Art-A-Whirl weekend, the biggest art event of the year in Nordeast Minneapolis!
We have some special events this weekend:

It is showing for free at 8:30 Friday night at Altered Esthetics… if you miss it there you can catch it at The Ritz at 2:00 on Saturday. Note that this cartoon is very much adults-only, and if you are under 18, we’ll have to give you the boot when it starts.
Saturday afternoon, the fantastic Roe Family Singers (who also were nice enough to play at the opening) will be playing from 3:00-5:00 or so.
Many of the artists in the show will be hanging out, drawing and socializing throughout the weekend. There will be jam comics that anyone can participate in. People will also have the opportunity to create animations for the zoetrope Ken Avidor made for the show.
Participating artists will be stopping by at random throughout the weekend, but in addition to that, you can come and meet some of them at specific times, if you’re inclined:
