Vote to Determine the Topic of the 2013 Comic Art Show at AE

Here are the proposed possible topics for the 2013 Comic Art show to be held at Altered Esthetics gallery in Minneapolis (based on verbal discussions and the online discussion here). (AE is hosting our Lutefisk Sushi Volume E show this November)

The option with the most votes will be the basis of next year’s project.

Please only vote if you intend to participate in the project. Note that you do NOT have to be a resident of Minnesota to participate in the 2013 project.

Here are the proposed topics:

Comic Music Project: cartoons about or inspired by music, packaged with record or cd

Poster Art Project: posters of huge cartoon canvasses

Public Domain Anthology: cartoon reinterpretations of public domain works (like Grimm fairy tales for example)

Moving Parts Show: Comics with a moving element (like pop-up mechanisms, for example)

Punchline: Anthology of comics about death

Mystery Box: Mysterious limited edition box full of mysterious comics and art.

Voting ends sometime on August 10th. Sometime shortly after that we will be taking nominations and voting on a featured artist for the show.

Lutefisk Sushi Podcast episode 24: Shloggs

http://www.cartoonistconspiracy.com/sushipodcast/2012/08/lutefisk-sushi-podcast-episode-24-shloggs/

In the twenty-fourth episode host DANNO KLONOWSKI speaks with Matt “SHLOGGS” Risnes . Despite the fact this podcast is the audio sampling of MN Cartoonists, SHLOGGS is in fact NOT a cartoonist, rather Shloggs is one of Danno’s oldest friends on earth.  In addition to that honor, Shloggs is an avid film aficionado, as well as a blogger and frequent and sought after film podcast guest who, rather than filling the internet with nerd rage, fills his blog posts and podcast appearances with eloquent logic and critical thinking about the medium of filmmaking.  That in mind, Danno and Shloggs spend this episode breaking down and discussing their favorite (and least favorite) film adaptations of comic books.  Shloggs provides the insight into the filmmaking and Danno discusses the ways in which being either faithful or disrespectful of the source material can make or break a film (depending on the film, obviously).

SPOILER ALERTS!!! If you have not seen the recent DARK KNIGHT RISES or AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (and good for you on that one), we discuss key plot points. Other films discussed include: SCOTT PILGRIM vs THE WORLD, BATMAN ’89, The HELLBOY series, the recent Marvel films including AVENGERS, THE CROW, and several more.

The Lutefisk Sushi Podcast is sponsored by the INTERNATIONAL CARTOONIST CONSPIRACY, the ALTERED ESTHETICS GALLERY, and the NORDEAST COMICS SUMMIT.  The Lutefisk Sushi podcast is a STAPLEGENIUS.COM(cast) production.

Tomorrow! Mpls Jam and Presentation at Big Time Attic!

I am full aware that everyone is familiar with the scheduled jam at Diamond’s, this is a reminder that before the jam, there will be an (unofficial) Nordeast Comics Summit given by my friend and web guru, Kristiana Hansen!  She will be discussing her RyuZine program which helps to bring comics and other images to different formats!  Anyone who is interested or is already working within the webcomics field should come around and find out more!

The doors open at 6:00 pm!  Come in early to grab a good seat!  A HUGE thank you to Big Time Attic and Kevin and Zander Cannon for use of their facilities!

Lutefisk Sushi E Planning

Come Jam in Minneapolis Thursday August 2nd!

The Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy meets at 6:30 until 10:00 the first Thursday of every month at Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe in Northeast.

Generally, we draw collaborative “jam” comics, socialize and drink caffeinated beverages. Afterwords, we often have uncaffeinated beverages somewhere else.

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).

Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe
1618 Central Avenue Northeast
Minneapolis, Minnesota

Bus info here.

Please spend some money at Diamond’s while you’re there, even if it is just a cuppa coffee… they are excellent hosts, and we wanna stay welcome there.

Rain Taxi is launching a new Lit Art Magazine and wants YOU!

Okay so recently Rain Taxi decided to launch a literary journal and is including COMICS! The deal is that on Aug 25th at the Cedar the event will launch with art making and local bands, and all the content for the issue will be made between noon and midnight, which is old hat for you comic jammers. They asked me to be the comics editor and I thought of you guys immediately. Who better to do this than 24 hour comics day veterans?

The deal is though, that Rain Taxi is crowd funding the project in the style of Kickstarter. And the funding seems to be creeping so it is going to need all the help it can get to become a reality.

The main reason that I am campaigning so much for this project among many other equally worthy projects is that I think it is a VERY IMPORTANT step in Minneapolis art/print scene that Rain Taxi from the get go decided to give COMICS an equal billing along with the more familiar short stories, poetry and non fiction. I think if this project makes it it will be another step towards comics being seen as an integral part of such anthologies and not an afterthought or oddity.

So that all said, if this sounds like something you’d want to participate in or help support here is where you do it. (Also read more about the details)

Also if your work is selected this is gonna be a really nice book on the resume 😉

Presentation At Big Time Attic! (The UN-official Nordeast Comics Summit)

My fellow Conspirators…

My friend and web guru, Kristianna Hansen has been working her fingers to the bone to present to you a new way to present your webcomics, and other comics material in different formats through her “RyuZine” program which she will be presaenting at Big Time Attic on  Thursday, August 2 at 6:00!  Here’s what she has to say about her program:
