JAM TONIGHT IN MINNEAPOLIS (Thursday November 2nd)… AND BRING YOUR 24 HOUR COMICS!
The Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy meets at 6:30 until 10:00 the first Thursday of every month at Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe in Northeast.
Generally, we draw collaborative “jam†comics, socialize and drink caffeinated beverages. Afterwords, we often have uncaffeinated beverages somewhere else. Tonight we will also be collating 24 Hour comics from last month’s Minneapolis 24 Hour Comics event into a nice box set.
The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).
Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe
1618 Central Avenue Northeast
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Please spend some money at Diamond’s while you’re there, even if it is just a cuppa coffee… they are excellent hosts, and we wanna stay welcome there.
Big Time Attic hosts our monthly jam meetings at Diamond’s… they will be supplying us with a big old plate of pastries or something. Thanks fellas!
24 Hour Comics Day Minneapolis Wrap-Up
A lot of fun was had in Minneapolis last weekend for 24 Hour Comics Day… if you haven’t already seen it, go look at the Minneapolis coverage on our event blog here. Ryan Dow, Dan Olson, Kevin Cannon and Zander Cannon have all posted their comics… go here to get the links. We will be collecting the comics as a mini-comics set… go here for more info on how to participate in that. Get some sleep and start mentally preparing now for next year.
HOT INK: Comic Art in Minnesota reviewed
The Hot Ink: Comic Art in Minnesota show at the Minnesota Museum of American Art just got a great write up in The Star-Tribune (and Vita.mn). Note that the article is 3 pages you have to click through to read.
From the article:
A populist complaint about the contemporary art scene is that artists today “can’t draw.” More to the point is that those who can draw have probably turned to cartooning. For anyone who appreciates great drawing, this show is a good place to find it.
You can check out some photos from the opening of the event here and here (thanks to Big Time Attic for pointing these photo galleries out… you can see a image of the print version of the article on their site)… please let us know if you see any more we can link to. Also, if someone could save a copy of the print version of the above article for me, I would much appreciate it!
Note also that if you haven’t seen the show, it apparently is going to be up until around March 2008… so you have some time.
What is the What for Minneapolis 24 Hour Comics Day

JAM TONIGHT IN MINNEAPOLIS!!! (Thursday, October 2nd)
It is a big week for the Conspiracy…
Thursday night we have a jam (see below).
Saturday and Sunday is FallCon, the biggest and best comics convention every year in Minnesota.
(On top of all this, we are a mere two weeks and change away from our 5th annual 24 Hour Comics Day event… hope you are getting some sleep while you can).
But right now, let’s focus on the jam, shall we?
Danno Says:
I know what you’re thinking…
You’re thinking tomorrow is Oct 1st…still another 6 weeks or so unitl you even have to THINK about X-Mas.…right?…WRONG!!!Cause if we’d like this months Jam to be part of the upcoming December Altered Esthetics show,at least one of the themes has to be–HAPPY HOLIDAZE.(and…in addition to Kevin doing an awesome job scanning each jam, he’s delivering them to AE for drisplay purposes…right?)So think X-Mas.Though no one said you had to think about it in a nice way…See you all about 7:30 on Thurs.

CALL AND ANSWER: Andy Singer’s Exhibition
Conspirator Andy Singer has a show of his cartoons up in St. Paul at the Black Dog Cafe along with another excellent looking show of Minnesota poster artists, coinciding conveniently with the Republican National Convention. Here is what Andy has to say about it…
Dear Friends, Editors, Acquaintances, fellow humanoids,
I currently have a show of over 40 cartoons at the Black Dog Cafe and Wine Bar in downtown Saint Paul–
http://www.blackdogstpaul.com/events/news-73.shtmlI am sharing the space with the Minneapolis Poster Offensive who is exhibiting 30 of its posters in the other half of the space–
http://www.blackdogstpaul.com/events/news-13.shtmlThe show(s) will be up through the RNC convention, probably until mid September.
There will be a reception for both of us on Friday evening, August 29th, from 5pm until we all fall down. I will be selling original cartoons, books, and maybe my soul. Come check it out!
For some photos of the show as I set it up, see–

Thanks,
Andy Singer

PUNY “30% More Commercial” Gallery Show this Saturday!
Our good friends at Puny Entertainment have a gallery show called 30% More Commercial opening at First Amendment Gallery this Saturday… here is the info:
“Best known for their animation on Emmy Nominated TV Series “Yo Gabba Gabba” and high-end interactive development; PUNY’s twenty-two artists, designers, and programmers throw shit against a wall to see what sticks. For one night only their corporate overseers allowed non-billable hours to be put towards un-artdirected art, interactive pointlessness, and animated mash-ups. On display are secret passions, resume killers, and a clear bias against race, gender, and economic backgrounds..
Is it art or a capabilities pitch? We’re not sure they know the difference. Salary DOE.”

24 HOUR COMICS DAY 2008, MINNEAPOLIS
Mark your calendars for Minneapolis’ fifth annual “24 Hour Comics Day” event. The details are as follows:
24 HOUR COMICS DAY
Saturday October 18, 2008 – Sunday October 19, 2008
10am – 10am
Bring food to share, and art materials for yourself (but know that Wet Paint will have a booth set up so you can buy all your stuff there if you want!)
For all the latest info, check out 24-hourcomic.blogspot.com
To register, email your name, email address and phone number to us at mpls24hourcomicday at yahoo.com. You can also ask questions there, but we would prefer if you did it in the comments for this post, as it will hopefully answer other people with the same question!
We will be making another box set collecting comics from this year’s event. We hope all event participants will want to participate in this as well. Everyone contributing a mini-comic to the box will get a copy of the box. In previous years we have made 100 of these… this year there will be less… the number is tbd, based on the number of participants.
Help spread the word by posting/printing/emailing the fantastic poster by Kevin Cannon (who may hold the world record for most 24 hour comics drawn)! Choose from:
400 px wide (blog-friendly)
800 px wide
1600 px wide (cartoon is readable at this size)
hi-res black (good for printing)
Thanks much to our sponsors at Big Brain Comics, Big Time Attic, the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, and Wet Paint!
