The Source is putting a lot of effort into the upcoming Indy and Alt Comic Week, and they want your books to sell before December 23rd! It is a great opportunity to have your work reach an audience that may not normally check it out… and they are offering to buy at least 4 copies of your publications outright! Hello Everyone,

We want to feature your Independent & Alternative Comics/Comic Books for our special event starting the week of December 28, 2009! As you may have heard, Diamond Comics has decided that in the last week in Deecmber this year, there will be very few new comic books shipping from major publishers to comic book stores across America. As a result, the Source has decided to take this opportunity to showcase and promote local/regional Independent & Alternative Comic Books and Cartoonists. That is to say we plan on using our entire new comic book rack to feature their works for the entire week of December 28-January 3. The reason I’m writing to you today is to invite you to participate and get your book on the rack.

Here’s the general outline:
1) We’d like to buy 4-10 copies of your most current published work to put on the rack.
We’re limiting each creator to a maximum of two spots to insure as much access by as
many different creators as possible.
2) We’d like to have it delivered here ASAP with December 23 being the drop dead date.
3) We are limited to 155 display spots on our new rack. First come first served.
4) We love all formats! Mini-Comics, Tear Sheets, Printed Peculiarities all welcome!

Further Info:
1) One of our staff members, Burl Zorn, is going to be the main contact at the Source for
this event. All activity, questions and contacts should be directed at him (see contact info
above). Call Burl at 651-645-0386
2) Before you send or deliver any comics, please make sure that you’ve spoken to Burl about
it!

I sincerely hope that you’re able to participate. What a great opportunity! We’re going to encourage fans to break from their buying habits and try something new. Now is the time and this is the place!

Thanks for your time! Hope to hear from you!

Respectfully,

Hello Everyone,

Time is of the essence! We want to feature your Independent & Alternative Comics/Comic Books for our special event starting the week of December 28, 2009! There seems to be some confusion regarding participation in the Source Mini Indy Con and us buying your books. You don’t have to be part of the Mini Indy Con for us to feature your books! We’re planning on using our entire new comic book rack to feature their works for the entire week of December 28-January 3. There’s still time for you to bring your books up and get involved!

Here’s the general outline:
1) We’d like to buy 4-10 copies of your most current published work to put on the rack.

Raise a Glass to The Vegan Ninja October 24th at Grumpy’s Downtown

This is a repost/reminder… note that it is right next door to the Porcellino/Sally book release at Big Brain the same night!

October 22nd is our dear, departed comrade Eric Lappegard’s (AKA The Vegan Ninja’s) birthday… come raise a drink to him and celebrate his life at Grumpy’s October 24th. Some of Eric’s family will be there from South Dakota, and would love to see as many people as can make it, even if they can only stop by for a short time.

John Porcellino Map of My Heart/Zak Sally Like a Dog Book Release Party this Saturday in Minneapolis

Zak Sally posted the following information on his blog

my very good pal John Porcellino has been on the road for the past 5 weeks, traversing our great nation in celebration of the release of his new book “MAP OF MY HEART: selected comics 1996 -2002” (Drawn & Quarterly) and not only that but GET THIS: also marking 20 YEARS OF KING-CAT.
i know, it’s crazy. so, yeah; John has been doing his zine for 20 years, and it’s pretty well agreed that King-Cat is perhaps the greatest mini comic, uh…ever. John has been HUGELY influential and i’m not even going to get into all that because i’d be up typing for another 2 hours, but it’s a big deal (in a very quiet, small way).
and John has said to me many times on the phone about the comics that make up “MAP OF MY HEART”…”they’re the best comics i’ve ever done”. and you know– they ARE. and with someone like John, and a magazine like King- Cat, that’s saying something. i’m not kidding, this is a VERY SPECIAL BOOK.
and not only that, but MY new collection of old stuff is coming out too– it’s called “LIKE A DOG”, and it’s a fancy hardcover book with a bunch of full color stuff in it, collecting the first 2 ‘zine issues of “Recidivist” as well as a bunch of other stuff i did for anthologies and whathaveyou, all decked out with extensive “liner notes”. my pals at Fantagraphics were nice enough to publish the thing, and i’ve got to say– i’m extremely proud of this book. i really am; it came out better than i could’ve possibly hoped.

so it’s a RELEASE PARTY FOR BOTH BOOKS!!! HOORAY!!!
michael’s puttin’ it on, so we’ll both be at BIG BRAIN COMICS (that’s 1027 Washington Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55415 (612) 338-4390) signing and shooting the breeze from 5 til 7:30 or so on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24.

then after that, we’re heading over to the WEST BANK SOCIAL CENTER (501 Cedar Ave. S (Second Floor) Minneapolis, MN 55454 http://westbanksocialcenter.org/)
from 8 to 10 or so, where Johhnny will give a presentation about 20 years of zinehood.

as always, short notice, but
come on down and say hi.
ok all, bye.
best, zak.

damn, i don’t have a pic of Johnny’s book, but here’s mine:
(whoops, that’s it up top there and i’m too tired to change it…)

Faust Comics

Ryan Hill, the Artistic Director of Sandbox Theatre in Minneapolis, sent the following information to share…

I collaborated with four artists to create original pieces of art inspired by short stories based on the Faust legends. These ‘graphic novellas’ are being released in the weeks leading up to the opening of our new play .faust opening on November 6 at the Red Eye Theatre.

Joel Vollmer created a piece called “The Summoning” that tells the story of Faust summoning Mephistopheles from the forest floor.

Jessica Boire made a comic called “The Learned Gentlemen” where a female Faust teaches three Masters a lesson when confronted about her new-found power.

Max Lohrbach painted dreamlike images for “Faust in Hell” accompanied by the story text.

Andres Guzman took a different approach for “Mephistopheles” and created a single image showing the classic Faustian demon.

“The Summoning” will be viewable on our website – sandboxtheatreonline.com – this week with the others coming after that.
