Help Support Altered Esthetics, The Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Autoptic and Rain Taxi

THE CARTOONIST CONSPIRACY NEVER SEEKS YOUR DONATIONS. We aren’t even a real organization, and we would probably just blow it all on beer, anyhow. In spite of this, the wonderful things we do would not be at all possible without the help of the below organizations. We are remarkably fortunate to have their support and collaboration. Please seriously consider donating to all of them. Thanks!

Altered Esthetics, the non-profit gallery that has helped organize so many wonderful comic art projects with the Cartoonist Conspiracy, including the recent Rock Ink Roll, is currently seeking funds to help print their calendar for next year. Please hurry on this one as it is a Kickstarter with only 10 hours to go at the time of this posting. If you are too late to help with their Kickstarter, you can donate through their site here.

The Minnesota Center for Book Arts, the non-profit organization that hosts us for our monthly open studios and has provided a space for our 24 Hour Comic Day and Minicomics Day events, is currently soliciting donations. Note that they have always provided their amazing space free of charge.

The wonderful bi-annual Minneapolis Autoptic festival (which recently became a non-profit) is starting to plan their 2015 event (which is going to be two days this time!), and needs your help getting it off the ground. We are incredibly fortunate to have this amazing event happening in the Twin Cities… please help them make it a reality.

RAIN TAXI, the local literary oragnization/publication which organizes the annual Twin Cities Book Festival, and who organized the fun Analog Cave at the Northern Spark festival which we participated in last year, is currently seeking donations.

Come Jam in Minneapolis Thursday, November 7th

The Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy meets at 6:30 until 10:00 the first Thursday of every month at Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe in Northeast.

Generally, we draw collaborative “jam” comics, socialize and drink caffeinated beverages. Afterwords, we often have uncaffeinated beverages somewhere else.

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).

Bus info here.

Please spend some money at Diamond’s while you’re there, even if it is just a cuppa coffee… they are excellent hosts, and we wanna stay welcome there.

The Cartoonist Studio Prize 2013 Call for Entries

Many of you should really consider entering this.

The Slate Book Review and the Center for Cartoon Studies are proud to announce the second annual Cartoonist Studio Prize!

Each year the Cartoonist Studio Prize will be awarded to work that exemplifies excellence in cartooning. (Last year’s winners: Chris Ware and Noelle Stevenson.) The creators of two exceptional comics will be awarded $1,000 each. In addition, this year award sponsor Copic is providing each winner with $250 of art supplies. Winners will be selected by Slate Book Review editor Dan Kois, the faculty and students of the Center for Cartoon Studies, and a distinguished guest judge. This year’s guest judge will be Christopher Butcher of the world-famous comic book store the Beguiling and co-founder of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival.

The two award categories for the Cartoonist Studio Prize are Graphic Novel of the Year and Web Comic of the Year. Finalists for each category will be announced Feb. 1, 2014. The two winning comics will be announced March 1, 2014.

Eligible Graphic Novels must be written in (or translated into) English, published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of 2013. To submit a comic for consideration, click here. Eligible Web Comics must be written in (or translated into) English, published online between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of 2013. Creators or publishers may submit a Web comic for consideration by clicking here.

Submissions in both categories must be received by Dec. 31. Currently enrolled CCS students are not eligible for the award. No creator may submit more than one work in either category. The judging panel reserves the right to consider work that was not officially submitted.
