JAM THIS THURSDAY IN MINNEAPOLIS (January 8th)

The Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy meets at 6:30 until 10:00 the first Thursday of every month at Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe in Northeast.

Generally, we draw collaborative “jam” comics, socialize and drink caffeinated beverages. Afterwords, we often have uncaffeinated beverages somewhere else.

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).

Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe
1618 Central Avenue Northeast
Minneapolis, Minnesota

Bus info here.

Please spend some money at Diamond’s while you’re there, even if it is just a cuppa coffee… they are excellent hosts, and we wanna stay welcome there.

Big Time Attic

Big Time Attic hosts our monthly jam meetings at Diamond’s… they will be supplying us with a big old plate of pastries or something. Thanks fellas!

St. Paul Cartoonist Conspiracy December 2008!

We were all tired of the holidays. We were all tired of the cold? Also, we were all tired of the pressure to consume? Thus, a record number of participants descended upon Cosmics Coffee to create “The Return of Krampus 2008!” However, Steve Stwalley suggested that it had something to do with my bitching last month about nobody showing up to the jam. Perhaps that’s the case, who knows?

If you’d like to participate in the next St. Paul jam, just show up on Thursday, January 15th, 2009 to Cosmic’s Coffee! Bring yourself and bring your friends, by force if you have to!

Want to see what we do while at the jams? Click on the image towards the bottom of this post to view our latest creation!

As with every Christmas at the St. Paul cell, Krampus graced us with his presence. Want to see last year’s Krampus offering? Click here. Don’t know what Krampus is? Click here.

St. Paul Cartoonist Conspiracy Jam! This Thursday, December 18th, 2008!

Tired of the holidays yet? The cold? The pressure to consume? Me too. Come join the St. Paul cell of the Cartoonist Conspiracy and Krampus this Thursday and blow off some steam! Just bring some drawing utensils, an idea for the jam, and although I already complained about pressuring consumption, please bring along a few bucks to get a tasty beverage — the baristas really do appreciate that.

The jam will start promptly at 6:30 and run until…whenever.

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner rather than later.

To join us come to:
Cosmic’s Coffee Shoppe
189 Snelling Ave N.
St. Paul, MN 55104
(Northwest corner of Snelling and Selby)

More not than often we head on over to grab a brew at:
O’Gara’s Bar and Grill
164 Snelling Ave N
St. Paul, MN 55104
(Southeast corner of Snelling and Selby)

Bus info here.

Any questions? Ideas for the jam? Don’t have a clue who or what Krampus is? Please discuss on our message board.

We hope to see you!

Some Twin Cites Cartoonists on KFAI’s Wave Project

Zander Cannon, Kevin Cannon, Danno Klonowski and myself (Steven Stwalley) were interviewed by Britt Aamodt this evening (December 14th) on KFAI’s Wave Project about cartooning. The show will be online for the next two weeks. You can hear the interview here.

Note: The broadcast mp3 begins with the Somali Oromo radio show that preceded it… it starts at 1:38 in the file.

Kirk Anderson Talks/Cartoon Presentations/Signings in the Twin Cities!

Got this posted too late for the first event, but there are two more coming up. From the Twin Citites own Kirk Anderson:

Dear friends,

I’ve published a book of all the Banana Republic cartoons that ran in the Star Tribune, and I have a few book events coming up, at Mayday Books, Amazon Books, The Resource Center of the Americas, and hopefully others soon.

If you enjoy tasteful humor about political dissidents getting their eye sockets melon-balled by a well-meaning generalissimo and his mischievous, fun-loving death squads, come on down, and bring all your friends and neighbors. What’s that you ask? “But Kirk, how can I help to bring in hordes of rabble to your high-minded forum?” Why, you can download a flyer at http://molotovcomix.com/flyers.html and slap it up at work or at your favorite coffee shop. Thanks for askin’!

Here are the upcoming book talks/cartoon presentations/artist signings:

Saturday, Dec. 6, 4:00 pm
Mayday Books
301 Cedar Ave. South, on the West Bank in Minneapolis
below the Hub Bicycle Co-op
(612)333-4719

Thursday, Dec. 18, 7:00 pm
True Colors Books, formerly Amazon Books
4755 Chicago Ave. South, Minneapolis
(612)821-9630

Coming January 17
Resource Center of the Americas

What’s that you ask? “How can I be sure I’ll have a fun time?” Why, if you bring five friends, you’ll be virtually assured of merriment! “No, really — what’s this book like? Will the evening rank up there with the birth of my first child?” You can check out the book, view sample pages and more online at www.MolotovComix.com and make your own call.

Thank you all for enduring this shameless act of self-promotion. Through your help and friendship, I will find the inner strength to admit that I am powerless over this shallow hucksterism, and stop before I become a full-blown self-loathing marketing pariah. But first, just a few more months hawking the book…

St. Paul Cartoonist Conspiracy Jam Comic – November 2008

I must say, turn out for this jam was a bit sparse. Some might say that can be expected due to the holidays. You know what I say? COME ON!!! PARTICIPATE! If Ryan Dow, Jon Sloan, and Mike Toft were all able to make it to Cosmic’s this last Thursday, then YOU certainly can make it to the next jam! What’s that? You don’t live near Twin Cities? Well, you can be excused. As for the rest of you, barring any previously accepted excuses, COME ON!!! PARTICIPATE!

In fact, this marks the first time that none of the original members of the St. Paul Cell didn’t make it! Shame on Bud Burgy and Daniel J. Olson! What the hell were the two of these guys doing that gave them the idea that they didn’t need to show up for the jam!? Think you’re special? Geez!

Still no word on the status of the Milwaukee Cartoonist Conspiracy/Cream City cell. Hey, McCarthy and Amado, I know it’s getting cold and all, but we’re still waiting as are the stray Milwaukee cartoonists!

For the sake of curiousity, I wonder what other groups regularly post on this blog other than Minneapolis, St. Paul, San Francisco, and 7000 BC (Albuquerque/Santa Fe). Anybody else out there? I vaguely remember seeing some news from Columbus, Ohio earlier this year. Doesn’t Chicago have a cell? The third largest city in America has a cell and we don’t hear anything out of them either? WTF? COME ON!!! PARTICIPATE!

I’ve posted our latest jam comic below. With Thanksgiving right around the corner and the country nursing a political hangover, this month’s title was “A Democratic Thanksgiving.” In order to view the jam, you can click on the image below, which will link you to the PDFs directly

Want to start up your own cell? It’s easy! Just follow this link: Start a Conspiracy in Your Community. Are you one of the many rival cells that we trash? Perhaps you are a LARPer and would like exact some “internet revenge.” If so, maybe you should do something about it and post something here.

St. Paul Jam – Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Come and celebrate regime changes and the wholesale slaughter of turkeys by jamming with the St. Paul Conspiracy cell this Thursday! Just bring some drawing utensils, an idea for the jam, and a few bucks to get a tasty beverage — the baristas really do appreciate that.

The jam will start promptly at 6:30 and run until…whenever.

To join us come to:

St. Paul Cartoonist Conspiracy Jam Comic – October 2008

Thanks to all that helped celebrate the one year anniversary of our off-shoot, rebelious, trash-talking St. Paul cell by jamming out at Cosmic’s Coffee on October 16th, 2008! We even had a newbie show up, which is always nice to see! Please, show up next time too! In fact, bring your friends!

Last October, Kevin McCarthy, Bud Burgy, and myself (Daniel Olson) met at Cosmic’s to crank out a four page jam entitled “Tussles and Tights” – an homage to the great Muscles and Fights anthology. This year, with Kevin (now living in Milwaukee) and Bud (now living in a cave somewhere?) gone, I was the lone original. Although I was not alone! Scott Gallatin, Ryan Dow, Meredith (didn’t catch your last name), Roy T. Cook, Jon Sloan, and Tom (still can’t remember your last name) joined me as we descended upon the coffee shop to jam out and possibly rumble with some LARPers. To those that showed up this past month and those that have joined us before, I thank you. As stated in the past, any and all are welcome to join us!

An update on the status of the Milwaukee Cartoonist Conspiracy/Cream City cell…..is still forthcoming. Hey, McCarthy and Amado we’re still waiting!

I’ve posted our latest jam comic below. With the election just weeks away, this month’s title was “Presidential Smackdown (and also featuring) We Spent the Bailout on Pizza and Beer.” In order to view the jam, you can click on the image below, which will link you to the PDFs directly

You should really know all of this stuff by now.
