Zak Sally Funds Sammy the Mouse Book Using Kickstarter! You Can Still Help!

I meant to post information about this a while ago… Zak Sally is seeking funding on Kickstarter to pay for printing a Sammy the Mouse collection. Before I got it posted, it already got funded with 16 days to go! Congratulations, Zak! Note that you can still help fund the Zak’s project beyond the goal and get some cool stuff for doing so.

Kickstarter is becoming a really amazing resource for cartoonists. Just the idea of art made for and funded by patrons rather than corporations is a very liberating prospect.

St. Paul Cartoonist Conspiracy Jam! This Thursday, May 19th, 2011!

Join the St. Paul Cartoonist Conspiracy Cell and create a jam comic at Cahoots Coffee! This locale provides us with not only a spacious room in the back of the shop, but also they have tasty mediterranean food for sale!

The jamming is easy and it’s a fun time! Just bring some drawing utensils, an idea for the jam, and a few bucks to get a tasty beverage or some chow — don’t forget to tip, the baristas really do appreciate that!

The jam will start promptly at 6:30 and run until 10:30 at the latest. Come earlier to reserve your space! Seating can be limited at times!

The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results will be posted here at some date yet to be determined.

San Francisco Bay Guardian Looking for Local Cartoonist

The following was posted by Brian Hibbs at The Savage Critics:

This is not directly tied to Savage Criticing, but I figure cartooning jobs are few and far enough between for it to be good Karma for me to mention this.

In going through this week’s San Francisco Bay Guardian, I espied a little blurb that said “Cartoonist wanted. The Guardian is looking for a cartoonist to take the place of the retired TROUBLETOWN. Must be: Funny. Different. Political. Have Some Local Connection. email samples to cartoons@sfbg.com. No calls, please.”

If you get a gig because you saw this here, you owe me lunch!

Drinking Liberally: The Art of the Political Cartoon This Thursday, May 19th

From The Cucking Stool blog:

This weekend is Art A Whirl in northeast Minneapolis. One of the patrons at the 331 Club asked me if we were doing an Art A Whirl edition of Drinking Liberally, and I thought that was a really good idea.

So this Thursday, May 19th, we’ll celebrate the art of the political cartoon with guests L.K. Hanson and Ken Avidor. We will be at the 331 Club from six to nine PM; the program with L.K. and Ken is going to crank up around seven. They will bring some examples of their work to show and talk a little about the process of taking an idea and making a memorable image.

Roger Lootine’s Artwork Ripped Off by XLARGE

Apparently, XLARGE, a company that makes poorly-designed t-shirts and other fashion atrocities for the dim-witted and/or aesthetically-challenged, recently made a good looking t-shirt by ripping off artwork by Minneapolis’ own Roger Lootine. You can read about it here.

You can contact the perpetrators here if you are inclined to tell them what you think about this. Or maybe you’ll want to just check out their site and see if they have decided to use some of your artwork without your permission! Spreading the word that these people are blatant plagiarists by passing this story around seems like a good idea.
