PS. We received a last minute appeal to come to the aid of a comic book industry legend. (Please see immediately below). Let’s step up and show him what we can do!

A PLEA FOR HELP – AN INDUSTRY LEGEND NEEDS US!
WeinAs many of you already know, the home of comics creator Len Wein (Swamp Thing, X-Men, etc.) was destroyed in a fire on April 6th, 2009. He, his wife Chris, and his son Michael were unharmed, but their beloved dog Sheba and Len’s extensive comics collection both perished.

There is now an effort to restore Len’s comics collection, particularly the books he worked on. If you’ve ever gotten pleasure From reading his books, or if you simply have some of these titles in your collection, please consider donating them to this cause. Insurance covers many things, but the comics weren’t under that umbrella.

Here’s how you can help:
* Please check the .pdf document listed below.
* Search your comics collection for items you can contribute.
* E-mail comix4len@povonline.com with the items you intend to donate
(so they can update the list).
* Bring them to the MCBA Spring Show, and hand them to either Christopher Jones or Melissa Kaercher. They will both have table space at the show.
* We will take it from there!

Other things you want to know:
Mark Evanier (POVOnline) is coordinating the effort. Please check this page on his site for updates: http://www.povonline.com/weinproject.htm

The .pdf document of comics can be found on that page, but this is the direct link. It will be updated frequently: http://www.povonline.com/Len%20Wein%20checklist.pdf

If you have questions, you can contact any of the following people:

We thank you for your help! Melissa Kaercher & Christopher Jones

MICROCON 2009 Coming Up Fast (April 26th)

MICROCON is coming up very soon. Our good friends at the Midwest Comic Book Association always put on a great show, and are wonderful hosts to creators… as is true every year, you won’t want to miss it! Read more about MICROCON here.

Hello Everyone,

It’s hard to believe that the 2009 MicroCon Comic Book Party is just a few weeks away!

During our never ending Winter, the staff and volunteers of the Midwest Comic Book Association, an all volunteer, not-for-profit, group have been happily working away and getting ready for the launch of the super spectacular MicroCon 2009!

Look for some changes in this years event! Every year MicroCon grows and evolves and this year is no exception! The Guest Creator list is bigger, the Dealer list is more diverse, the layout of MicroCon is different (so make sure you get a chance to look around the whole place!), and we’ve added some unusual goings on!

And while change and growth is good, somethings at MicroCon are staying the same! As always, look for friendly staff, easy Guest Creator access, hundreds of prizes & grab bags, a terrific 55,000 square foot marketplace, a world of surprises and much more!

What we’re really trying to say is that we’re inviting you and your family/friends join us at the MicroCon Comic Book Party! The only thing cooler than doing something fun, is sharing the fun with someone else or with your community and we love being part of that community!

MicroCon is a Comic Book Party where everyone is welcome and there’s something for everyone!

Finally, as promised, here’s some new information about the “One Day Wonder!” and a couple of other related factoids laced with comic book shenanigans!

Thanks for your time and we look forward to seeing you soon!

MicroCon Wants Your Posters!

Our good friends at the Midwest Comic Book Association (organizers of FallCon and MicroCon) are looking for lots of people to make posters for MicroCon 2009. What fun! Here is the scoop:

Hello Everyone!

The new year is upon us and the mighty MCBA is gearing up! Initial preperations are under way for both MicroCon & FallCon so we thought it would be a good time to send out this special request!

Over the years, we’ve had many dedicated creators that have generously volunteered their creative super powers to help promote and enhance MCBA events. A perfect example was last years awesome MCBA FallCon Sketch Card promotion. The positive feedback from that effort was nothing short of spectacular and given that success and the many more recent requests that we’ve received from our creative community, we thought it would be a good idea to offer a new volunteer opportunity for creators to get involved.

Every year, for MicroCon and FallCon we distribute about 15,000 flyers & 150 posters into local/regional comic book stores, libraries, book stores, community centers, music stores, night clubs, tattoo parlors, etc. Once again, this year we’ll not only be following that pattern, but expanding it significantly. That’s where you come in…

In response to many comic book folk requests, we’d like to officially invite anyone of you would like to do a flyer for MicroCon 2009 to participate. Generally speaking, we’re looking to distribute flyers promoting MicroCon that are designed and created by the people who make the comic book media magic happen. All flyers & posters donated will be distributed and everyone is welcome to participate! Here’s the particulars…

All flyers should probably include the following:

* MicroCon Comic Book Party
* Sunday April 26, 2009

* Minnesota State Fairgrounds
  1621 Randall Avenue
  St. Paul, MN 55108

Other elements of interest:

* Huge Comic Book Marketplace!
* Door Prizes & Prize Drawings!
* Gigantic MCBA Grab Bags to the First 500 Attendees!
* Free Parking!

Format notes:

* Flyers will be printed in black & white (8.5″ X 11″). Posters in color (11″ X 17″).
* High res Jpegs are preferred.

Creative notes:

We are not 100% committed to a specific style or content, format, layout or presentation. We encourage you to design and implement a concept of your own creation and that you’re happy with! If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to e-mail us!

Timeliness:

The sooner the better! We’re planning to send out our first wave of flyers on January 31st, 2009

Please submit to:

So there you have it! Thanks in advance to those of you who will be participating and  for those of you who can’t or are unable, please remember this is strictly a volunteer thing and it ain’t no thang!

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR FALLCON 2008!

Well! Response so far has been nothing short of… pathetic! Help! Please! Your Conspiracy needs you!

Thanks much to stand-up guys Dan Olson, Ryan Dow, Matt Kriske, Bud Burgy, Zander Cannon and Scott Gallatin for letting me know they can help out… I assume there are a lot more of you out there who plan to help and haven’t let me know. Please do, as I need to make sure we are covered for the whole convention, ideally with at least 3 people at all times. Volunteer for as little as an hour or as much as two days! Here is the info again…

The Conspiracy is organizing a lounge again for FallCon this year, and we need volunteers to help run it. Note that if you are not a guest at FallCon, you can still volunteer, and if you are a guest at FallCon and have your own table, you can still volunteer (we’ll have signs you can leave at your table during your time spent in the lounge). You can volunteer for as little as a couple hours or as much as the whole weekend.

To volunteer, drop me a line at:

When you email me, please also let me know what hours you want to volunteer for. We are looking for volunteers the evening of Friday October 3rd (for set up), 9AM-5PM Saturday October 4th, and 10AM-6PM October 5th.

You can also email me with any further questions, or, better yet, ask them in the comments so others can benefit from them.

As with last year the focus will be on hanging out, meeting folks, drawing jam comics, shooting the poop, talking Conspiracy, and reading funny books. We will also be hosting a mini-comics station where people will be able to create and print their own mini-comics live for free… the MNCBA will be providing a copier, and I’m hoping to have a sponsor for supplies as well.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: In addition to volunteers for time, we also need some folks who are willing to loan us and haul some furnishings for the lounge… couches needed in particular! Other items: comfy chairs, rugs, bars, tables, coffee tables, drawing tables, loungy decorations, etc.

Thanks!
